About High at 60

How a personal learning project grew into something much bigger.

High at 60 didn't begin as a plan to build a cannabis website. It started because I was trying to understand cannabis better for myself.

After a serious vehicle accident, I was left living with chronic pain. Like many people dealing with long-term pain, I found myself taking more and more prescription medications. At one point, I was taking around 25 pills every night just trying to sleep. Instead of sleeping better, the more medications I took, the worse my opioid-induced insomnia became. While some of those medications may have slightly helped with pain, they also left me feeling mentally slow, disconnected, and almost zombie-like. I didn't feel like I was getting my life back.

Years later I reached a point where I asked myself if there had to be a better way. I still wasn't sleeping well. I was still dealing with chronic pain, and despite all of the medications, I didn't feel like I was getting my life back. I felt like I was surviving instead of living.

That's when I decided to give cannabis another chance. I wasn't looking for a miracle cure. I was looking for another option that might help me sleep, improve my quality of life, and hopefully reduce my dependence on so many medications. I didn't know if it would help, but I felt it was worth learning more.

When I walked into a dispensary, I quickly realized how little I understood. Every product had different THC percentages, CBD percentages, terpene profiles, strain names, and marketing claims. I wanted a simple way to compare flower side by side and understand how THC, CBD, and terpenes worked together. I couldn't find a tool that did exactly what I wanted, so I built one for myself.

That simple comparison tool eventually became High at 60. As it grew, I added flower analysis, then tools for vape cartridges, concentrates, edibles, and eventually the Learn Center so people could understand cannabis in plain English.

I started the High at 60 YouTube channel as a way to escape some of the isolation that comes from living alone. It gave me a way to connect and communicate with other people. Over the years I've been hurt and taken advantage of enough times that I pretty well keep to myself now. Making videos gives me a place to share what I'm learning and hopefully help someone else.

I've been fortunate to have loyal dogs throughout my life. They aren't just pets to me—they're family. The truth is, I probably depend on my puppy even more than my puppy depends on me. My puppy gives me companionship, someone to talk to, unconditional loyalty, and another reason to get up every morning.

Around the same time I started my second YouTube channel, 52 City Walks. It began as a way to get out of the house, improve my physical and mental health, and hopefully live a little longer so I can continue caring for my puppy. It also lets people who can't easily travel experience conventions, car shows, beaches, festivals, scenic drives, and other interesting places through my videos.

Both channels share the same philosophy: help people. I try to warn consumers about scams, misleading marketing, hidden fees, and products that don't live up to the advertising. So far, every product I've talked about has been purchased with my own money.

Somewhere along the way I realized something important: everybody needs a purpose. Without purpose it's easy to slowly wither away. Having something to build, someone to care for, something to learn, and people to help gives us a reason to keep moving forward.

As High at 60 continued growing, I realized it could help consumers and businesses. I'd like to offer dispensaries an affordable place to advertise. If they can spend less on advertising, maybe some of those savings can eventually be passed on to customers.
